R.E.M. made a "simple", yet somewhat complex album with Reveal in 2001. The band just came off the great Up, but they had this to follow it up. The opening trio of songs is expected on every R.E.M. album, and its really good here. "All The Way To Reno (You're Gonna Be A Star)" is full of great guitar and uplifting vocals. "I've Been High" is all Michael Stipe with numerous electronics. "She Just Wants To Be" is a pick due to Peter Buck's amazing Guitar. "Dissapear" is a dramatic song with great vocals from Stipe and a basic guitar line. "Saturn Return" is a standout track, with a nice, simple piano line and Stipe's vocals carrying you. Its full of synths too, and has a great ending. "Beat A Drum" has some great basslines by Mike Mills and good piano. "imitation Of Life" is the big single, while "Summer Turns to High" is all Stipe. "Chorus And The Ring" has some shimmering guitar and great Basslines, and its ending gave it a pick. "I''ll Take The Rain" is the final single, and It sounds like something Radiohead could've done (Which is a very good thing). "Beachball" is a great closer. It sounds like 21st Century Beach Boys with Electronics and Strings.
